Fourth Sunday of Advent. The other side of the leaf cannot be read since it is
pasted onto a board.
Parchment. 1 folio. 500 x 358 mm (written space 400 x 260 mm). 1 column. 5 lines. Ruled in
lead.
Written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata), with musical notation in
black on a four-line staff in red. The parchment and writing appear to be from the sixteenth-
century, but the decoration was added in modern times. There is a 2-line initial "U" ("Uentris")
in blue, green and purple on a gold ground and containing the figure of an angel striking a
tambourine. Foliage decorations in the same colors as the initial extend from the initial into the
left margin; similar decorations are in the lower margin. 1-line initial "E" ("Ecce") is a red
capital. Punctuation consists of the punctus.
The fragment is pasted down onto stiff cardboard measuring ca. 471 x 402 mm. Gift of

Feria II throughout the year, lauds. The capitulum is from Romans 13.12-13. On
the hymn see Schaller-Koensgen 15627.
Parchment. 1 folio. 565 x 377 mm (written space 405 x 265 mm). 1 column. 14 lines. Ruled
in ink.
Written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata). The 2-line initial "S"
("Splendor") at the beginning of the hymn is in olive-green, green and red with white filigree and
is filled with purple, blue and red foliage decorated with white filigree. The initial is on a gold
ground outlined in black and is surrounded by green, blue and orange foliage that extends into
the margin with gold balls. 1-line initials alternate blue and red. The first letter after the 2-line
initial and after the 1-line initial "N" ("Nox") are 1-line black capitals filled with yellow.
Rubrics are written in red in the same script as the text and are occasionally highlighted with
yellow. Punctuation consists of the punctus, punctus elevatus and the punctus flexus.
Hyphenation is in the same ink as the text. The catchword is in the center of the lower margin.

margin of the recto). 788 x 560 mm (written space 600 x 373 mm). 1 column. 6 lines. Vertical
ruling in dry-point and horizontal ruling in lead. Prickings in upper, outer and lower margins.
Written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata), with musical notation in
black on a five-line staff in red. On the recto there is a 2-line initial "C" ("Cecilia") in red and
blue on a rectangular ground of red and blue penwork, not set apart from the text. The 2-line
initial "E" ("Expansis") on the verso and the 1-line initials are black and are not set apart from
the text. Rubrics are written in red in the same script as the text, but in a smaller module.
Punctuation consists of the punctus. Hyphenation is in the same ink as the text.

Parchment. 1 folio. 711 x 500 mm (written space 600 x 390 mm). 1 column. 5 lines. Ruled in
lead.
Written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata) with musical notation in
brown on 4-line staves in red. 1-line initials alternate red with brown penwork and blue with red
penwork. The 1-line initial at the beginning of the rubric is a blue capital with red penwork, and
the rubric is written in red in a smaller version of the text script. Words and syllables are divided
by red horizontal strokes. Punctuation consists of the punctus. The musical notation for "Dico
autem nobis..." has been entirely changed by a later hand, which also rewrote several letters of
the text.
The number "147" is written in ink in the outer margin of the recto, along with two other
numbers that have been crossed out.
Gift of Dr. Morton J. Loeb on 15 May 1956. According to Dr. Loeb, the leaf is from a
sixteenth-century Spanish manuscript "originally used by the Choristers of the Cathedral of Jaen
in Southern Spain."

lines. The boundary lines were first ruled in lead and then rewritten with double lines in red ink;
the minim lines are ruled in lead, and the rulings separating each text line are in red ink.
Written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata). On the recto there is a 4-
line initial "C" ("Cantate"), not set apart from the text, in red and blue on a ground outlined in
purple and decorated with purple foliage on red cross-hatching. 1-line initials at the beginning
of the hymn and the psalm are red and are not set apart from the text. Other 1-line initials are
black and are not set apart from the text. Rubrics are written in red in the same script as the text.
Running titles ("Ad Matutinum" and "Sabbato") are written in red in the center of the upper
margin; the folio number "48" is also written in red in the upper center of the recto. Punctuation
consists of the punctus and the comma. Hyphenation is in the same ink as the text.
On the recto there are two unidentified numbers: "715" in pencil in the upper left corner
and "175 Pt" in ink in the lower margin.

Parchment. 1 folio (foliated "224"). 510 x 382 mm (written space 370 x 255 mm). 1 column. 6
lines. Ruled in ink with double vertical bounding lines.
Written in gothic script (littera textualis). One 4-line initial "I" ("Iubilate"), the body of
which is divided into three columns of blue, blue-grey and light brown, each column decorated
with a different pattern of white filigree. The crossbars of the letter are orange, decorated with
white filigree and tipped with green; the bottom crossbar extends down the left margin where it
ends in blue-grey, green and orange. 1-line initials and the letters of "Iubilate" following the
initial alternate red with blue penwork and blue with red penwork. The first letter of the rubric is
a blue uncial with red penwork, and the rest of the rubric is written in red. Punctuation consists
of the punctus. Musical notation is in black on 4-line staves in red. The folio number "224" is
written in the upper right corner of the recto in ink by a later hand.
The notation "LB. 57443" is written in pencil in the upper left corner of the recto.
