(out of original 50; missing f. 1, supplied by facsimile), 180 x 121 (95 x
69) mm. One column, 20 lines. Single bounding lines, ruled in red ink.
Prickings evident in outer margin.
I^^8-1 (with missing leaf supplied in facsimile), II-IV^^8, V^^10, VI^^8.
No catchwords.
Gothic bastarda script. Signed and dated by scribe/illuminator, colophon on
f. 50v reads: "Cy finist le libre artelouche lequel a este escript et
illumine par moy vincent philippon lan grace mil cccc et quatre."
Initials in red, blue, and gold. One full page illustration of a falcon and
the instruments used to cure various maladies on f. 45r. Several marginal
flourishes and sketches (most often of birds), apparently by scribe.
Rubricated.
Binding: French red-brown morocco with gilt edges inside, and with gold
embossed letters on spine reading "Le Libre Artelouche 1504".
Provenance: Signed and dated by the scribe: "Cy finist le libre artelouche
lequel a este escript et illumine par moy vincent philippon lan de grace
mil cccc et quatre". First front flyleaf has the bookplate of Henri
Gallice. Second front flyleaf has the bookplate of Marcel Jeanson, with
the ink notation "MS. 115." Purchased from H.P. Kraus, 1987.
Bibliography: Souhart, Bibliographie Generale des ouvrages sur la chasse
(Paris, 1886), p. 6. This text was printed several times between 1567 and
1628.
